Burgess Falls State Park & Sparta, TN 6/9/16
What a fun day we had! On the way to Burgess Falls State Park we drove past, what can only be described as an old bus graveyard just taking up space on someone’s land. There had to be hundreds of them parked about the place. All in varies sizes, styles and shades of decay. It was glorious. Sadly, there were no trespassing signs EVERYWHERE and so I only trespassed for maybe 10 minutes just so I could get a few shots. (I’ve got to get a hold of the folks who own the place and see if they’ll give me permission to spend the day there!)
Burgess Falls State Park is gorgeous and quite the hike. It’s not for the timid or out of shape and the sites you’ll see as you hike next to the Falling Water River is breathtaking. There’s four waterfalls, sadly the access area for the largest of the waterfalls was closed for repair while we were there, but that did not diminish our enthusiasm in any way. After our hike we had a nice picnic on the grounds and drove into Sparta, TN to see what was occurring. Not too much as it happens. The historic downtown area was quite nice, and on the way out of town we discovered that they had an operating drive-in! How cool is that?
